July 2003 The National Endowment for the Arts awards a grant to the Phoenix Boys Choir Association for the composition of a children's opera. The work, to be composed by Michael Abels and premiered by the Phoenix Boys Choir, will tell the story of a group of singers with divergent musical styles who, through collaboration and respect, make music in spite of their differences.
